Frequently Asked Questions

You've got questions? We've got answers! If you don't find the answer you're looking for, reach out to us.

Yes! If you can dream it, we can do it. If your ceremony is outside of the city or somewhere more adventurous, consider one of our elopement packages. Whether on horseback, in a creek, or in a farmers field, we can make your ceremony work for you. Be sure to note where you would like your ceremony to be held when booking your consultation.

Marriage Commissioners registered through the Government of Saskatchewan are not permitted to perform any religious rites, sacraments or traditions. That being said, if you would like to have a religious aspect included in your ceremony, we can plan together to have a friend or family members share any religious readings or prayers during the ceremony.

YES! We are a firm believer in marriage equality and would be honored to take part in any LGBTQ+ ceremony.

As long as the two parties entering into the marriage partnership are capable of providing their individual consent and are not currently legally married to another partner, we are more than happy to provide our services for your big day.

Your friend/family member can perform all aspects of your ceremony for you except for the legally binding portions. Let’s work together to customize your special day to ensure that the ceremony is exactly what you want while still being legal.

Once you have submitted your request for a consultation, we will reach out to your to book a first meeting typically held on Zoom. In that meeting we will discuss your wants and dreams for your big day and how our services can help. Once we agree on a course of action, you will be emailed an invoice for services, your contract of service and next steps for making your dreams come true.

We do require invoices to be paid in order to reserve your requested ceremony date. Invoices can be paid by e-transfer, cheque, cash or credit.

The "To-Do's" Before the "I Do's"

1. Obtain a marriage license

This is a crucial step in legally tying the knot. Be sure to pick up your marriage license at least 24 hours prior to your ceremony. Licenses can be purchased up to 90 days in advance of your big day, so don’t put it off.

Many local ring shops, dress shops as well as SGI can issue a license. Just be sure to bring two pieces of ID for each partner entering the marriage.

2. Schedule your Wedding Commissioner

A licensed wedding commissioner is the second step in having a legal marriage ceremony. Wedding commissioners are individuals liscensed by the Government and are granted the ability to legally comission weddings. Be sure to book your commissioner well in advance in order to secure your wedding date.

3. Communicate the Details

Depending on the ceremony package that you and your partner have designated, you and your wedding commissioner will have lots of time to discuss the day-of details. Be sure that any details surrounding the date and time of both the wedding day and any rehearsals (if applicable based on your selected package) have been well communicated.

4. Get Married

Now that all the paperwork is done, let’s make it official!

5. Order your Marriage Certificate

Your wedding commissioner will provide your with a certificate of marriage but if you are planning on legally changing your name, a legal marriage certificate from the Government will be needed. For those in Saskatchewan, visit E-Health Saskatchewan for information on how to order a marriage certificate. Your wedding commissioner can also assist with the application process if necessary.
